March Happenings

We have finished up basketball and are moving to outdoor activities. The sun is finally out and the early spring plants are starting to poke their heads through the soil, a welcome sign for sure.

Pączki

Mmmmmmmm Pączki(punch-key). Driving home from work I heard a piece on the radio about the Polish tradition of clearing out cupboards of lard, sugar and jellies in preparation for the Lenten fast. To use up these ingredients Polish bakers create Pączki on Fat Thursday. The announcer described how he went with his Polish guide to find the best Pączki bakers in Warsaw and the celebrations around this delectable treat. Now, I consider myself somewhat of an expert on all things excessively caloric and delicious but this creation somehow slipped past my sweet radar. Imagine my surprise when I went into the Kroger and saw boxes of Pączki. Somehow I decided to pass, I am in training! I have been so good! So I left the treats at the store. When I got home I told Rick about this new tasty sensation I had recently learned about. Upon Rick's next trip to Kroger he procured not one box but two boxes of Pączki. So in spirit with our Polish brothers and sisters we reveled in the yeasty, jelly goodness. Na Zdrowie!
