Snow Time!

Snow day!! We got the calls early this morning telling us there was no school. The boys got up earlier than if they had school. They were up and out early. We got about eight inches of snow and it was beautiful!!! The guys hit the "hill" across the street. Here is Owen catching big air.
We made it over to the Butler Bowl for more tubing and snowboarding. George and Owen were cracking up at all the "sleds" they saw the college students using, like laundry baskets, cafeteria trays, beer cases, and plastic box covers. We even saw four kids go down the hill in a giant clear plastic bag!! We also had to watch out for the goal posts and clocks.George and Mama

Owen and Rick going double.

George handling the hill on his snowboard.

Owen and his balaclava.

Snow days bring out the baker in Becca. Mmmmm . . .

Pao doce- Portuguese sweet bread. We ate this bread when we were on the east coast a few years ago. It is perfect for breakfast.
Mexican hot chocolate for the boys. And yes, the paper did catch fire while I shot this picture.

Although this doesn't look real good, it is curried rice and lentils. It was served with a minted tomato sauce, raita and chutneys. Mmmmmm. We had this with Mam and Bop.

Snow!

We love the beautiful snow. We all got home from school today so excited about the snow. As much as we all love school, the prospect of a snow day is too good to be true. I made some pizza dough and brownies and then head out to see the snow football game.

Sunday Morning Painting

What a great way to spend a cold and snowy Sunday morning. I think we could use some easels! George is making a painting of McDonald's ranch in New Mexico with White Sands and a mushroom cloud in the back ground. The painting is part of a school project on New Mexico.

Owen is painting a portrait of Medusa, of course!

Basketball

We have been spending our Saturdays this winter watching the boys play basketball. It is so much fun to watch 8-9 year old boys play ball. Here is coach and player.
Here is coach and his team after a close one.

Art for a Good Cause

George and Owen's music teacher at school is a Naptown Roller girl aka Cereal Killer. The girls are having a fund raiser for (against) breast cancer. All the roller girls made plaster casts of their chests then gave them to local artists to design. See my designs below. The artwork will be auctioned off at the Feb.14 bout. I'll send out more information as it comes available.

This piece pays homage to Jim Croce, who only wrote the greatest song about roller derby: Roller Derby Queen!

This piece is a little different, it is made out of a dress pattern and wax. Please come out and support this good cause. Oh yeah, my roller derby girl name is (if I were one) Frida Killoh! Get it? Like Frida Kahlo, the artist....oh, nevermind.

Holy Mole!!!!

Last Saturday after the boy's basketball games I invited Mam and Bop (aka the in-laws) to have lunch with us. I made a pinto bean mole. MMMMMmmm beans AND chocolate! It was a big hit. The recipe is from Gourmet.com. Ever adventurous in their dining with us (they never turn us down when we invite them over for the latest recipe) I thought it an appropriate gift for Bop's retirement a subscription to Gourmet. Gourmet talks about wine and Mam and Bop drink it. However, Bop did tell me what his first recipe will be..beef and onions. I can't wait to try it. Rest assured there will be no mushrooms or black olives (or seafood) in that recipe.

Super Cardinals!!!

The Cardinals are going to the super bowl!!!! We are so excited!! Way to go Papa.

Getting Out

This was the high for the day!! School was canceled because of the weather. The Boys had to get a game in, so they put on many layers of clothes and went out the back door to play some ball. I was not about to venture out to document the game so I got a picture of the thermometer and photos of their return into the house about 45 minutes later.

One of the fun things we have been doing during the winter is going to the Butler University football field, formerly known as the Butler Bowl. We usually have the field to ourselves and have never been asked to leave which is so cool.

Things we do and food we make

We have been cooking a lot and the boys are becoming quite the chefs! Here is George separating an egg for his key lime pie. Owen is getting ready to make his peppermint brownies. These were the dishes the boys made for the Christmas Cavalcade of Cakes.
